VANCOUVER, June 1, 2011 /CNW/ - Westminster Resources Ltd. ("Westminster" or "the Company") announces that Geotech Ltd., of Aurora, Ontario has commenced a Versatile Time-Domain Electromagnetic (VTEM Plus) helicopter-borne geophysical system survey of the Company's El Cobre property (21,000 Ha), located in Sonora, Mexico. The combined VTEM/aeromagnetic/radar altimeter survey of the El Cobre block will collect data over 1700 line kilometers. The survey plan consists of 200 meter spaced lines for the regional survey and 50 meter spaced lines E-W and 100 meter spaced N-S lines over a detailed block located in the Anita Copper Mine area. These traverses are designed to complement recently completed regional geological mapping and prospecting by identifying main structural zones, sub-parallel trending lineaments and cross-cutting striking structures, and to priorize drill tests of conductive anomalies (sulphides) to depth as well as map lateral and vertical variations in resistivity contrasts (alteration zones).
The new 2010 VTEM data acquisition system uses 50 channels of "time gate" windows for increased depth penetration and improved response. The wide conductivity aperture is optimized to detect and resolve poor (zinc-sphalerite mineralization) and good (copper sulphides) sulphide mineralized conductors by using the EM signal simultaneously on several frequencies to acquire apparent conductivity properties at different depths. The high sensitivity cesium magnetometer of the survey will collect data directly related to the magnetic properties of structures (faults and shear zones-magnetic lows) and magnetite mineralization (sulphides and magnetite in stockworks and skarns related to gold-copper porphyry deposit systems).
It is anticipated that Geotech will finish the VTEM Plus survey in 10 days and submit its final report by the end of June. The Company receives preliminary results daily and expects that the data modeling along flight lines may lead to further definition of exploration drill targets to depth and along strike across the El Cobre property. The survey can immediately assist in guiding the drill program currently underway at the San Bartolo projects' polymetallic-silver-bearing mineralized zones. The detailed Anita Copper Mine survey block data interpretation and modeling is expected to generate exploration drill targets directly related to silica encapsulated preserved high grade copper sulphide zones within the copper oxide breccias zone (600 meters strike length) and unweathered sulphide-rich zones below the water table. The Company will use the geophysical surveys to locate hidden sulphide and magnetite mineralized bodies which are present under recent volcanic cover rock units and under the extensive alluvial cover found across the El Cobre property. In areas where exposed alteration features and mineralization has been identified and conventional and SGH (soil gas hydrocarbon) soil grid surveys have been completed, indications of hidden porphyry style targets can be further interpreted from the VTEM Plus survey results. Drilling in the Anita Copper Mine area is expected to target in a Phase Two drilling program, porphyry bodies believed to be responsible for the high grade copper-silver-gold mineralization previously mined.
Glen Indra, President of Westminster, stated, "This VTEM survey uses a 26 meter diameter loop EM transmitter and receiver and high resolution magnetometer suspended approximately 50 meters below the helicopter and flown at an elevation of 30-55 meters above the ground. It is a proven excellent prospecting tool which can directly discriminate and locate hidden anomalous drill targets to considerable depths. In combination with El Cobre's favorable geology and structural trends, the mapping of geophysical magnetism and conductivity related to alteration and mineralized zones are going to be greatly enhanced by Geotech's innovative and cost effective survey."

About Westminster:
Managed by an experienced exploration team the Company is focused on exploring and developing several prime gold-silver-copper targets located on its 21,000 hectare El Cobre and 18,000 hectare Navojoa properties in Sonora, Mexico. These targets include the Company's most advanced Anita Copper Mine, newly discovered San Bartolo-silver, Cumbral, and the Guayacan-gold-copper prospects on the El Cobre project; at the Navojoa project targets include three porphyry deposit systems.
