Mar. 23, 2011 (TheNewswire.ca) --

Vancouver, B.C., March 23, 2011 - Rugby Mining Limited (TSXV:RUG) ("Rugby" or the "Company")(TSX-V: RUG, FRANKFURT: 7RM.F) is pleased to report that it has secured a drilling contractor for the Mabuhay porphyry project located in Surigao, Philippines. The Company's inaugural drilling program comprising a minimum 2,000 metres of diamond drilling is scheduled to commence in mid-April. The drilling contract will be extended should results be encouraging.

The Company is also conducting a +30 line kilometres of 3D-Induced Polarisation survey designed to delineate porphyry style gold-copper mineralization in the immediate vicinity and surrounding the previous epithermal gold producer known as the Motherlode Mine. This historic underground mine is reported to have produced some 500,000oz of gold, although Rugby believes that the major potential at Mabuhay is for the discovery of large gold-copper porphyry systems.

Paul Joyce, the Company's President and CEO stated, "Following the wet season in Surigao, and the finalisation of a drilling contract, our team is anxious to commence drilling at Mabuhay. We can immediately target extensions to the nearby discovery at Red5's Mapawa porphyry just outside Mabuhay's northern property boundary. Alteration associated with porphyry mineralization is evident well into our property, and drill targets are obvious, even without the IP results. The IP data will assist in tracing the porphyry drill targets to depth."

Update on Rugby's Interceptor Porphyry Project, Argentina

The Company has now commenced a geochemical sampling and mapping program on the Interceptor porphyry gold-copper project in northern Argentina. The program is designed to delineate lateral extensions of significant gold and copper mineralization in two main prospect areas, Gold Ridge and Zig-Zag.

At Gold Ridge, mineralization previously identified by Newcrest (1997) occurs in strongly altered and silicified sediments over a strike of approximately 500 meters (open to the northeast). Significant assays within this zone include 39 meters of 1.22 g/t gold in Trench 5 and rock chip samples assaying up to 14.5 g/t gold. A prominent zone of alteration extends 600 meters further to the northeast.

At Zig-Zag, copper oxide porphyry mineralization has been mapped on surface, and is thought to extend under low-lying gravel and scree covered areas. Significant trench sample assays within this area of outcrop in Trench 1 include 42 meters at 0.33% copper and 0.21 g/t gold. IP geophysical surveying is planned to extend the area of coverage to the south of Zig-Zag, closing-off a high chargeability response and delineating drill targets under areas of cover. Drilling is planned to commence in October 2011.

About Rugby

Rugby, with a treasury of $7.2 million, is an emerging mineral resource company focussed on the discovery of large scale gold and copper deposits. The management team has a track record in the successful exploration and development of major resource projects in different mining jurisdictions.

Mabuhay Project

The Company has an option agreement to acquire up to an 80% interest in the Mabuhay project, located in a "mining friendly" area of the Philippines. The project is located close to a number of significant projects, including the recent gold-copper porphyry discovery, Mapawa. Management believes Mabuhay has excellent potential for the discovery of similar mineral systems.

Comita Project

Rugby has a two stage option agreement with Rio Tinto Mining to earn up to a 60% interest in Comita, a porphyry gold-copper project in the western cordillera of Colombia. The Comita project is a gold-copper porphyry system recognised during a joint German-Colombian exploration program over 20 years ago. No systematic exploration has been conducted since that time. Surface exploration is expected to begin in 2011, with drilling in early 2012.

Interceptor Project

The Company has an option agreement with Miranda S.A., an Argentine company, to acquire 100% of the Interceptor porphyry gold-copper project in Catamarca Province, Argentina.

Interceptor is located near the renowned Maricunga gold region of Chile, an established mining district which hosts significant operating gold mines and advanced stage gold copper porphyry deposits, including the large Cerro Casale and Caspiche projects. Interceptor is drill ready with large scale targets defined by geochemical and geophysical surveys conducted by a previous operator.

Hawkwood Project

Rugby has an option to acquire up to a 90% interest in the Hawkwood project which covers 427 square kilometres of prospective copper-gold and iron licences in Queensland, Australia. Eastern Iron Limited, an ASX listed company, has the right to earn up to an 80% interest in the iron ore targets by incurring defined exploration expenditures and the completion of a bankable feasibility study.

Francisco Montes, the Company's Exploration Manager and a "qualified person" within the definition of that term in NI 43-101, has supervised the preparation of the technical information contained in this news release.
