McChip Resources Inc. press release

Northern Shield Provides Updates on Exploration at Max and Wabassi Properties.

TSXV - TSX Venture Exchange · Oil · Potash · Natural Gas · Canada

OTTAWA, Dec. 2 /CNW Telbec/ - Northern Shield Resources Inc. ("Northern Shield") (TSX-V: NRN) is pleased to announce that the assay results from the Max-Wabassi drill program are nearly complete. In total, six holes were drilled on the Max property and two at Wabassi. Northern Shield has the option to earn up to a 66% interest in the Max property from East West Resource Corporation ("East West") (EWR - TSX-V) and has a 100% interest in the neighboring Wabassi property.

Six drill holes totaling 2,998 meters were completed at Max over the summer and fall. The main target was a 3 x 1 km magnetic anomaly interpreted to represent an ultramafic body that could contain nickel-copper-(PGE) mineralization. All five holes drilled on the main target at Max intersected a mafic-ultramafic intrusion composed of olivine-rich peridotite, olivine-gabbronorite and troctolite. Short intervals of minor net-textured nickel and copper sulphides were seen in all four holes drilled into the eastern edge of the intrusion (08MX-01, 02, 05 and 06). Anomalous to highly anomalous PGE values were seen throughout the intrusion with the most significant results coming from drill-hole 08MX-05 (0.24% Ni, 0.12% Cu, 0.20 g/t PGE+Au over 2.9 meters). The sixth hole tested an EM anomaly to the east of the intrusion (see press release dated September 9, 2008).

Two drill-holes were completed at Wabassi over the summer and fall. The first hole (08WA-02) was drilled to test the composition of the Wabassi North target (drill-hole 08WA-01 was abandoned before intersecting the target) and the second hole (08WA-03) was drilled near the contact of the main Wabassi layered intrusion. Drill-hole 08WA-02 confirmed the Wabassi North target to be a gabbroic intrusion. Further work is required to interpret its relationship, if any, to the Max or Wabassi intrusions and its potential to host Ni-Cu-(PGE) mineralization. Drill-hole 08WA-03 intersected local concentrations of pyrrhotite with minor chalcopyrite near the contact of the main Wabassi intrusion. Initial interpretation indicates these rocks are strongly depleted in nickel and PGEs. If this is the case, and the magma that formed both the Max and Wabassi intrusions is the same, then PGE and or a Ni-Cu-(PGE) bearing mineralization is most likely to be found in the northern tip of the Wabassi intrusion or at Max intrusion itself. An airborne VTEM survey has been completed over Wabassi and the data is being processed. The drill remains on site.

"In layered intrusions, PGE reefs typically form following the concentration of PGEs from a large body of enriched magma into a thin layer (reef), which means that the remainder of the magma above the reef will be depleted. Of the 159 samples analyzed for nickel at Max, 94% assayed greater than 0.1% Ni and 77% of 109 samples analyzed for PGEs showed above mantle values for PGEs (greater than 20 ppb). This is a good indication of the fertility of the magma that formed these rocks for nickel and PGEs," says Northern Shield President, Ian Bliss, "and the reason we will be focusing in on the northern portion of Wabassi and Max in the next exploration phase where the rocks change from being enriched to depleted."

The drill program was overseen by Christine Vaillancourt, Northern Shield's Chief Geologist, who is a Qualified Person under National Instrument 43-101. Core samples were analysed by ALS Chemex laboratories in Timmins, Ontario and Vancouver, B.C for Au, Pt, Pd by Fire Assay with ICP finish and for base metals and other elements by four acid digestion and ICP finish.

The "Max" nickel-copper-PGE prospect is located adjacent to Northern Shield's 100% owned Wabassi property in northwestern Ontario. Under Northern Shield's option agreement with East West Resource Corporation, Northern Shield is the operator and manager of exploration at Max and has the right to option to earn up to 66% interest in the property Northern Shield is exploring its Wabassi property for nickel-copper-(PGE) mineralization, and believes that the Wabassi north and East West's Max targets are parts of a feeder conduit to the main Wabassi intrusion.

Northern Shield is an innovative, results-driven Canadian company focused on diamond and Platinum Group Element (PGE) exploration in Ontario. Its mission is to create a successful mineral exploration company through technical excellence and efficient management, where success is measured by the identification and development of high-quality mineral exploration projects, which may ultimately be optioned, sold or developed for maximum return on investment.
