Mystique Energy, Inc. Appoints Mr. Verne Johnson as Director

CALGARY, Dec. 8 /CNW/ - Mystique Energy, Inc. ("Mystique") (TSX Venture: MYS) announces that Mr. Verne Johnson has been appointed a director of Mystique. Mr. Johnson graduated from the University of Manitoba with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering. Starting with Imperial Oil in 1966, he has spent his entire career in the petroleum industry, primarily in western Canada, contributing to the growth of oil and gas companies of various sizes. He was President and Chief Executive Officer of ELAN Energy Inc. until it was sold in 1997. He is presently President of his own private company, KristErin Resources Ltd. In addition to his expertise and experience in the growth and management of petroleum companies as an engineer and chief executive officer, Mr. Johnson also brings to Mystique experience and knowledge in corporate governance. He is a director of a number of private and publicly traded companies including Fort Chicago Energy Partners LP, Harvest Energy Trust, Blue Mountain Energy Ltd., Builders Energy Services Trust, Gran Tierra Energy and Deer Creek Energy. As a director, Mr. Johnson serves as a member or chairman of audit committees, corporate governance committees, reserves committees and compensation committees. He is also active in the Calgary community and serves as a director of the Calgary Opera. According to the President of Mystique, Vic Luhowy, "The addition of Verne Johnson to our board is an important step in the growth of Mystique. His expertise and long experience in oil and gas technical and financial issues, as well as in corporate governance, will provide strong guidance that will enhance the growth of our company." In connection with his becoming a director, and upon approval of the TSX Venture Exchange, the directors of Mystique have approved the issuance to Mr. Johnson, of 200,000 options to purchase common shares of Mystique at $0.56 in accordance with Mystique's Option Plan. Based in Calgary, Mystique Energy, Inc. is involved in the exploitation and production of petroleum reserves in western Canada.
